JAP SHOW 2023: RECAP

We'll start this post off with one word...

WOW!

This year's Jap Show for us, was our biggest club stand ever and the whole event did not disappoint!! We had a grand total of 31 confirmed squares for our stand, checkout our cheeky lineup below!

The perks of the Jap Show booking means that after a certain amount of passes are purchased, we get a few free passes as well, we gave away our free passes in a little competition, so that means that 2 lucky winners got to attend this event for FREE! Who doesn't love attending a car show for free! Well done to Jack & Peter who both won a vehicle pass and an adult ticket each for this event.

Anyway, we started off our day by meeting all of our lovely members at our pre-meet location (Sainsbury's in Olney) where we got to have a little chat and a bit of time to stretch our legs before we convoyed down to the event. We found out that many of our members travelled over 2hrs to attend this event with us, thank you!

Once we left Sainsbury's we had a short 20-minute convoy down to Santa Pod Raceway for their first Jap Show event of the year (it's such a popular event that they host it twice a year, and yes, we will be heading back for Jap Show Finale (a.k.a Jap Show Part 2)). We quickly got in and lined up everyone on our stand as instructed by the marshalls. The weather at the time was a bit chilly and quite foggy but it soon heated up for the spectacular event.

As with every show, everyone got their cleaning products out and was away with the cleaning fairies, preparing our amazing squares before the public could get in. All of our squares were very shiny and ready for public viewing! The gates finally opened and the public flocked in like a good heard of sheep, along with that you could hear the roaring sounds of 2JZs and other engines heading straight up the strip, the sound of the show officially starting!

We had our club photographer on hand as well and he was straight in there grabbing snaps of all of our beautiful squares, thank you soo much Adam at Geared_Up_Photography! Don't forget to check his Instagram account for all of the coverage of our squares and other cars to!

Personally, we took the time to have a look at our members squares and with the diverse lineup we had, we could not miss the opportunity! Ranging from Nissan Cubes to Toyota bBs, Honda S-MXs, Daihatsu Materias and so much more! Not only our best club stand yet, but our biggest club stand ever!

Once we had finished looking at our squares on stand, we took ventured around the other stands on show and they did not disappoint either! Such an impressive range of cars they had on show for Jap Show 2023! Here's a few cars that caught our eye at Jap Show!

Amongst the impressive cars on display, Santa Pod had so much to offer, they had a huge trade village, a live action arena (with displays from the Team Maximum Lock drifters and the Two Brothers Stunt team), a drift arena (where you can go for passenger rides in a professional drift car), show & shine area, handling track (be timed around a made-up course in your personal vehicle), live stage area and the almighty impressive jet-powered dragsters! There is something for everyone at Jap Show!

Now here's something you don't see every day...

Whilst we enjoyed taking a walk around the show, taking in the sights of some amazing cars, impressive stunt displays and the huge trade village, we decided why not go for a spin on the strip!

We've got Emily who owns the minty Toyota bB (VP of Square Society and admin of Toyota bB UK) who we had been chatting to for years about putting some squares up the strip for a laugh and this year, we finally did it! We raced our Nissan Cube against Emily's bB and it was a sight to see! You get all these high-performance cars tearing it up the strip in sub 20 seconds times or blasting it over 100mph and yet, we put 2 of the least aerodynamics cars on the strip to see what they can do 😂.

Our Cube and the bB are completely bog-standard under the hood, both cars are 1.5litres, banging out a respectable 109hp from the factory (we've both probably lost a few ponies over the years 😂) and both have done some impressive mileage under their ownerships.

Both squares did the 1/4 mile drag in under 20 seconds (apart from Emily's cockup on the last run 😂😂😂), safe to say we had a blast! You can view our track photos below (special thanks to Blackett Photography for the pics!) and the final result of our timeslips!

Note: The timeslip on the top (White Slip) is for our Nissan Cube and the bottom timeslip (Black Slip) is for Emily's Minty Toyota bB.

Safe to say our cube won that thanks to that extra 2mph 😂. All hail the Cube!

SUMMARY

We had a total blast for this year's Jap Show! Our favourite event/car show of the year and we cannot wait to be back at Santa Pod in October for Jap Show Finale!

If you would like to bring your square to Jap Show Finale with us, then please pop us a message as we are now taking payments for our club stand!

Thank you everyone!
