ME, MY SQUARE & I: GUY GLADSTONE

Next up on the podium for Me, My Square & I is... Guy!

Before we start, we'd like to personally welcome Guy to the Square Society admin team!

Guy is very active in the community and has been on the square scene for a fair few years and has had his fair share of squares (as you're about to find out).

Now with that out of the way, we can finally find out what makes Guy & his square tick!

INTRODUCE YOURSELF

Hi all, my name is Guy Gladstone, I'm 35 and I'm from Southampton. I currently work as a warehouse operative for a supermarket.

My current square in question is a Honda Odyssey but I have owned a few over the years.

You can find me on Instagram: @tattooguyleon

So, a bit about me and what got me into cars and the modified car scene.

I've been into cars for along as I can remember. My parents were both into modified cars and growing up my dad drove a modified Starlet gt and my mum drove a modified supra, so I was always around modified cars. I remember as a kid going to loads of Japanese meets. My dad used to organise and run modified madness and modified matchams/burning Bournemouth, so I have many memories growing up around modified cars. My main passion is the "stance" scene, I've got a huge passion for wheels and always adding and changing my collection of wheels.

My first car was a max power style Renault 5, but after realising insurance was going to kill me, I settled for a 5-door nova saloon. And as soon as I passed my test, I began modifying it.

Over the years I changed cars a lot and mainly leaned towards jap or vag cars. Castrol rally replica Toyota Celica, mk2 vr6 golf, Lexus gs300, Toyota Altezza, few passats, few polos, few mk3/4 golfs, a few Toyota Yaris, just to name a few.

After going through a variety of JDM and VAG cars, I then settled on a Nissan Cube Impul and so my love affair for square cars began. I had looked at one for ages till I found the perfect one (and to be honest it's one of the very few cars I regret selling). Having modified it and attended quite a few shows I stupidly sold it.

After regrettably selling the Cube, I then went on to have a few VWs but nothing quite lived up to the cube.

Then just under 4 years ago after a long time of changing cars regularly I got my current (now show car). My seat Leon fr. It started as a daily car but slowly got more and more modified. It's now widely known as the lowest static mk2 Leon in the UK and after deciding to get it resprayed, I got to the point I needed a daily car to use. After going for a couple of reliable VWs, I was on the hunt for another square car. I finally found my Daihatsu Materia (basically a mk2 Toyota bB) affectionately named Doris. Which I picked up off of the Square Society page and had as my daily for 18 months, slowly modifying as I went. I only recently sold it to buy my current Honda odyssey as wanted something a bit bigger but still quirky, square and Japanese.

WHAT SQUARE DO YOU OWN?

I currently own an Rb1 Honda Odyssey Absolute. I wanted to stick with something unusual and jap but a bit bigger than the Materia. I also really liked the fact being the 2.4 it had that bit more power too when I wanted it.

After looking at a few different models I decided on the Odyssey as it was the best all round for the money. I'm fascinated by the Japanese stance scene, and they are really common over there and look amazing modified. I liked the fact that there aren't many of them in the uk, let alone modified ones so it was something that would stand out. So, when this one popped up at the right money and being the absolute edition model that I wanted, I couldn't resist.

The Odyssey is still fairly new, so I haven't been out to get many photos of it yet, so here's a couple of photos of it and a few of the other cars I own/owned.

WHAT MODS HAVE YOU DONE TO YOUR SQUARE?

So, the car came with a few modifications done already.

- bc coilovers

- Honda rage 19" wheels

- rsr cat back exhaust

So far since owning it I've had a new driveshaft, hub and few general maintenance bits done. I've also changed the wheels to some Nissan 350z wheels.

I've also purchased a set of weds split piece wheels which I'm planning to refurbish and rebuild over the winter. I will also lower the coilovers down to suit the wheels to get the fitment how I want it. I've also got a few other little bits I'd like to do but nothing too crazy as it's my daily car

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 SONGS TO LISTEN TO IN YOUR SQUARE?

My favourite song of all time probably is butterfly by crazy town.

But I go through phases of listening to different songs, so I've listed my top 3 current artists that I like to listen to at the moment.

- kygo (love tropical house it's just so chilled)

- Post Malone

- bad manners (can't beat a bit of ska, can never be sad or down when you're jamming along to this)

IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT, THEN WHAT WOULD YOUR TOP 5 DREAM CARS BE?

Ferrari F40. It's one of those cars every young lad had a poster of on their wall and dreamed off. Remember sitting in one and being allowed to rev it a few years ago it was like being a child all over again, the noise and how raw the car is, it's just something special.

Split screen vw. Always dreamt of opening one as always been mad about vws and attend loads of vw shows.

Mazda Rx7 Fd - probably the best-looking cars ever made.

Will also add to that list that I'd love to own a big jap VIP car, something like a Nissan president, or Toyota Crown. Would have to be completely VIP styled though

ANY Honourable MENTIONS OR SHOUTOUTS?

A massive thanks to my partner Lauren, always supporting me no matter what and has also helped me every step of the way whether it's with wheels, building my car or just moral support. Also, a very big thanks to the prawn squad for all your help building the car and being my cleaning crew at shows. The cars wouldn't be what it is without you.

A big thank you to Guy Gladstone for writing out his blog article feature! We're extremely excited to have Guy as part of our Admin team, here at Square Society!
